What is upside down text?
Upside-down text repurposes rotated Unicode characters from several blocks — mostly the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) extensions (U+0250–U+02AF) and Latin Extended blocks. The IPA was designed for linguists to transcribe sounds from any language, and many of its characters visually resemble rotated or reflected Latin letters: ɐ looks like 'a rotated 180°', ʎ looks like 'y rotated 180°', ə looks like 'e rotated 180°'.
The generator maps each standard letter to its closest rotated equivalent, then reverses the string order — because for text to truly read 'upside down' when you rotate a screen 180°, the letter order must be reversed as well as each individual character flipped.
A few nuances worth knowing:
• Not every letter has a perfect upside-down Unicode match. 'Q' is approximated by the Greek Koppa (Ϙ), 'W' maps to 'M', and 'V' maps to Lambda (Λ). The approximations are close but not exact. • Numbers have partial support: 0, 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, and 9 have upside-down analogues (6→9, 9→6, 0→0, etc.) • Punctuation has limited support — periods become dots, question marks become Spanish inverted marks (¿), exclamation marks become (¡)

Pro tips
